It’s the ultimate battle between magic and religion or pagans and Christians, or atheism and theology.

So, let’s have it.

I don’t think the ten commandments are a clear enough set of rules to live by and should include a rule to guard against sloth, greed, gluttony and lust and it wouldn’t hurt to add ‘do no harm’ either.

What do you think?

Here they are:-

The Commandments

I am the Lord your God: you shall have no other gods but me.
You shall not make for yourself any idol.
You shall not dishonour the name of the Lord your God.
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.
Honour your father and mother.
You shall not commit murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not be a false witness.
You shall not covet anything which belongs to your neighbour.

Versus the pagan way,

Pagans

Do no harm and guard against the seven deadly sins, of lust, greed, gluttony, sloth, wrath, pride and envy.

The ten commandments were taken, from a current Church of England site. To me, these represent only five ‘life rules’, essentially missing out many important factors for people to follow a healthy, happy and fulfilled life. I looked around and made sure it the same ten commandments for all Christian churches and it is.

Thankfully all our countries have laws, both common and criminal so this a debate about upbringing and life lessons rather than changing any laws in any countries or judgement of how others lead their lives. I’m talking about a code which produces great humans who are kind to each other and look after their environment and themselves.

Of course, it is extremely important to add that there are elements of opportunism and corruption across every organisation.

There are many different folk who believe in God and have their own moral codes

There are different types of pagans, for instance Wiccan is an American Christian mixture of paganism which bares zero similarities to me.

My kind of pagan is more Druid, It’s an earthy, caring, herbal and creatively based faith that I never called a faith to my children.

I don’t believe in the Wiccan ‘Power of Three’ as this is just from religion, copying the father, the sun and holy ghost.

It seems to me with our lazy, overweight and arrogant current civilizations many people do seem to have lost their way. I agree with my religious friends regarding the minority of evil acts which continue regardless of the heartache and destruction that they cause to others and our lands, oceans and skies. We must do all what we can to stop this if it’s our control and declare an interest to stop it if not.

Many people that I’ve spoken to were surprised that the ‘love thy neighbour’ commandment from when they were children is not part of the ten commandments – I must admit they weren’t as I remembered them.

It seems every one’s faith is their interpretation? If it were down to a simple set of rules to live by which of these two set above would lead to a healthy, happy society?

A little reading on the subject.

  1. I don’t like threats. I’ve done no harm. The church are only there for some followers not all.

  2. Let’s start with your premise and cut to the chase, shall we. “It’s the ultimate battle between magic and religion or pagans and Christians, or atheism and theology.” There is no battle to be had, nothing and no one can lay claim to what Jesus Christ said and did!
I wrote many times these words that truly resonate with the absolute truth although in the end faith and humility are required of all who seek the heavenly kingdom.
But, ultimately after all is said and done all we have is our Faith in Him, because we are truly in His hands, lambs ready for the slaughter living in the world with its corruption but knowing He will never forsake us if we are living in accordance to His word and will for us, I do trust Him with all.
You are better to take one side or the other, to say you confess that Jesus is whom he was said to be the MESSIAH, or he is not, but this lukewarm nonsense is a travesty and that is something God says in the “living words of the Scriptures,” that He would rather we take one side or the other but not to be lukewarm! Again, I say this one fundamental truth to you and anyone listening, no other human being on this earth ever did or could lay claim to what Jesus Christ did and who he said He was! It is historical fact not maybe or supposes! He was the “Sacrificial Lamb for all Mankind,” in order to take away all man’s sins and cleanse all who accept this GIFT in order that they will be worthy to be in “Gods perfect Holy presence in Heaven eternally!” No other way is available, Jesus said “I am the way the path and the life!”
God cannot be any more clear cut than that, He has spoken and told us in no uncertain terms that Jesus is the only way to heaven and all else fails but will bring eternal damnation! Simple choice for we simple earthly fools some with huge egos and arrogant ways, thinking they are powerful like sorcerers and witches! They got diddly-squat and will rot in hell for eternity!
Here you answer your own cause with the dilemma and proves itself an oxymoron with no final answer other than you try as a mere human to come up with this code you will chase your own tail into oblivion no doubt!
“I’m talking about a code which produces great humans who are kind to each other and look after their environment and themselves.
Of course, it is extremely important to add that there are elements of opportunism and corruption across every organisation.”
But, this takes the cake as being a wild little twist on an ultimate truth handed to us humans from the supernatural Creator to bear in mind and heart, as to what the Divinity of God is and words for our limited imperfect understanding; being that we are all sinful and hopeless without His plan of resurrection.
“I don’t believe in the Wiccan ‘Power of Three’ as this is just from religion, copying the father, the sun and holy ghost.” Maybe the Druids or Wicca’s and Mayans like the word “sun” but God only speaks about His only begotten Son which is God as a perfect t man having nothing to do with the sun that heats the solar system. The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost as the One true God Almighty who reconciled all imperfection by means of His absolute perfection!
A great scientist even touched upon this, from the genius mind in science of his work in theoretical physics which points out that this genius much brighter than most of us admitted God is real and perfect without doubt or hesitation.
“The most beautiful and most profound experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms – this knowledge, this feeling is at the centre of true religiousness.”
    -Albert Einstein
I also wrote recently and quoted Albert again in his one profound statement to another physicist that speaks volumes! Follow my text to the one grandiose sentence he spoke.
I also see the deepest intrinsic value in every speck of existence as miraculous and having qualities that are not random or meaningless or having come into such balance and order by chance or random sequential events taking place at some special by happenstance moment, as I also don’t see how it all has always been as it is with no beginning or end, as we observe readily all is changing and disintegrating in this realm! Scientists know for certain and have demonstrated the “Big Bang” theory, but so too persons like the great Albert Einstein who by far one of the most extraordinary minds to have even been here on earth, told fellow physicists when having a discussion about the millisecond prior to the “Big Bang;” when one of the scientists extrapolated with all of his calculations that with enough “random events” occurring just before that “golden moment” when creation took place or the “Big Beginning,” as I call it, this scientist said these events would surely fall into the precise order required for that golden moment to take place.
Then Einstein said, “Ah, Yes my friend but you’re forgetting one thing, God doesn’t roll dice!”
You see he knew that a creating power that vast and intelligent would undoubtedly be deliberate and intentional in all of its actions by the sheer fact of knowing all things that would by default make “each action perfect and precisely what it was meant to be” or the only thing it can be; never a mistake! My point to you and all followers here is that the mathematical probability that all of this unbelievable existence to have come into being by some unknown yet perfect event happening by chance is basically mathematically impossible, especially when one looks at and examines closely the incredible intricacies of every bit of existence down to the atom to not see clearly that a vast intelligence is at work in all of this; which is far beyond our little puny minds or almost insignificant meaningless opinions when stacked up against what is really going on here! You and I know basically nothing in comparison and to think otherwise is complete folly and I dare say stupidity on our parts if we are to think so highly of ourselves! We only have what God has given to us and there is obviously a plan or imagination at work that will have the final say in everything here, no if’s and’s or but’s about it! Rest assured you are part of God’s plan, but our biggest task is to recognize that, and appreciate the opportunity sitting on our laps, while then giving due respect and love back to our Creator because that was the only reason all of this began, was out of “His infinite love.” We step outside of this plan or design attempting to make ourselves our own God, then we transgress the “OLD ONE,” as Einstein referred to him. That would be quite asinine to do don’t you think?
    I concluded with this:
Just this fact, that we can think as we attempt to comprehend and make these observations is obviously a miracle and gift from the “Divine Creator” of all things, which plainly tells us that we are meant to see, recognize and understand these basics, then to let our conscience and heart be our guide, which will lead us to Him in Love and Peace beyond measure, far beyond our present limited understanding. As Holy Scriptures have told us, “Seek and You Will find.”
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8

    Lord have mercy. Amen.

    1. I am currently battling the local mosque who have put planning permission in to Amplify the call to prayer. You have a right to your faiths…I don’t mind the bells of the church. Unfortunately because of these faiths my rights are being diminished. I dont speak islamic or hebrew so I pitch my battle where I can. Since the uniformed faith organisation was formed my rights and my childrens are being forgotten.

      1. The one true God Almighty can be spoken about in any language. Actually He transcends all human comprehension and languages or man-made systems fall into that category of being moot when it comes to the Supreme Being. I’m not sure exactly what you mean by the rights of you and your children are being forgotten. If you speak to civil or legal rights set forth by humans in society when you should have basic rights that all citizens have as well, especially if your history is many generations upon your ancestral lands. England hasn’t been a land of mosques and indeed Europe had nothing to do with them until a Caliphate was established throughout Europe after Muhammad in 632 declared that God told him the only acceptable religion to God is Islam. Of course by his doing that he started a war against all of humanity stating that anyone outside of Islam is an infidel so they must convert or die! This was the very reason for the Crusades of the Middle Age as an attempt by the predominately Christian peoples of Europe along with other citizens pushing back Islam to where it came from; not in Europe. Christians cannot and should not be compared to Muslims they are in complete opposition to each other in that Islam denies that Jesus Christ is God Almighty and the Messiah. This was all a battle that was started by Muslims ramming Islam down everyone else’s throats. The later Ottoman Empire in the last century was a resurgence of the old Caliphate again attempting to take over and convert all those outside of Islam by force. It sounds to me that you poor folks have a big problem on your hands and I sure pity anyone that must deal with those who declare the rest of the world are infidels! I know most Patriotic Americans with me would stomp them into the dirt if they tried to push that ideology upon us! If they try it here they will have a war like they never conceived of in their wildest jihadist fantasies!
I do pray that you and your family can have the peace that any natives to your lands deserve and that any infringement of those rights will be deterred or eradicated completely. God bless you and yours.

  3. I like the Buddhist version. The 10 Prohibitionary Precepts. They are of the form “Refrain from…” instead of “Thou shalt not…”

Avoids all the debates about stealing bread to feed your kids, and puts the onus on you to decide what is right or wrong.

Though I am definitely not Buddhist or vegetarian. And I do have the occasional alcoholic beverage.

I like the form of the precepts…

” I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given.”

    1. There was a fascinating article last week about a Buddhist statue being x-rayed. It was, they said, 1000 years old. Upshot was they found a human skeleton inside.
I like many things about Buddhism however there are some parts like the young monks lives which are not so pleasant. However, I get the avoid point – because there are instances when things can’t be avoided but at the very least we try. So, we have this much in common. Thanks for your comment.
